Rothgar (Retired)

About Rothgar…

I didn’t get my first computer until I was a sophomore in college (2002). My family had a computer growing up but that really was only because our typewriter broke and with three kids there were occasional papers to write. I actually got my first job “fixing” computers before I even had one myself. My freshman year I was in charge of the computer lab in my residence hall and helping out with the technology departments big events. I honestly didn’t know what I was doing and I still feel a little lost sometimes.
To be honest I am just fascinated with how things work. Growing up my family was always on the poor side so this forced me to buy a lot of used stuff (mainly electronics and cars) and to figure out how to fix them by taking them apart or recycling them in some way or another. When you take apart a couple cars you quickly figure out how to put them back together. My experience with computers was really the same.
Buying used computers and really wanting to figure out how things work naturally lead me to Linux.
