I disagree that that personal preference for classic desktop is strictly subjective. Classic Linux desktops model themselves after the early Windows 9X desktops. The genius of early Microsoft (before it became a company of patent trolls) is they modeled the computer desktop after the physical desktop. Computer files worked the way manila files worked. The virtual desktop worked the way a physical desktop worked. Virtual documents worked the way paper documents worked. One had literally centuries of experience and workflow to base one’s procedures and nomenclature on. With the new bells and whistles desktops, you constantly have to make a mental note of “this now represents that” to get anything done. The classic desktop is a tool, the “new wave” desktops are, like the smart phones they are based on, toys.
