Isaac (Retired)

Prior to becoming a software engineer, I served 4 years in the United States Marine Corps. Instead of reenlisting, I chose to purse a college education. During college, I majored in computer science with a minor in networking. Programming didn’t click with me until I took a course in Java. Since graduating, I have worked on the government side of things as well as the private sector. Most of my work revolves around Java web applications and while Java is my bread and butter, my programming passion lies in JavaScript.

A few years ago, I decided I would learn Linux by bringing an old laptop back to life. After doing some reading, I downloaded and installed Linux Mint. Since then, I’ve done everything I can to level up my knowledge of Linux. Nowadays I help out with the mintCast podcast as well as co-host The Pi Podcast. I teach two intro level classes at the local library; one over Linux and the other over the Raspberry Pi.  What little free time I do have is usually spent writing articles for FOSS Force over Raspberry Pi or learning/reading as much JavaScript as I can.

I can’t even being to explain how much Linux has changed my life. I have met some amazing people through podcasting and have learned so much from each of them. My skill as a programmer have grown from my workings and readings of Linux. All the knowledge I have gathered has allowed me to teach others about Linux. I also refurbish old laptops with Linux Mint and had them out to families that can’t afford a computer, which none of that would have been possible without Linux. Due to all this, I will always continue to promote and champion Linux in everything I do.
