I heard you guys mention that you will be talking about video editors in a future podcast as well – so I hope that you include the Blender VSE in that discussion.
Although it uses Blender’s… unique… interface, it is a very powerful editor: capable of handling all the formats (video, audio, image) that I have thrown at it; many transistions and effects; plugins for anything it doesn’t have; is robustly coded.
I use it on a 1st generation netbook (630MHz CPU, 2GB RAM) to edit HD video footage with many different formats being brought into it. It doesn’t crash, and plays back at full speed in preview – it’s been a dream to use when compared to how other linux video editors have performed for me.
Hey, do you have a link for Blender VSE or how to install it in Linux Mint? I can’t find it in synaptic package manager and I have never heard of it. I will start googling if I haven’t heard from you.
Hi Rothgar. The Video Sequence Editor is already within Blender, this article:
http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2008/04/20/video-editing-with-blender/
has a good explanation of how to access it and arrange the panels for video editing.
I’m kind of surprised that LiVES was not a focal point when discussing video editing on Linux Mint. Mint is one of the best distros to run LiVES on, along with Mandriva and PCLinuxOS.
